Insta Round-Up: The Great Groundhogian

Sorry if you've already seen these on Insta;
I just couldn't spare the time to write an actual post, so you get GHog pics instead.
I've been a busy little bee & finally finished my law school apps!
Right on time, too, because the first deadline is February 15th.
If I don't mention law school ever again,
it's because I didn't get in anywhere and let's not talk about it, k?

I submitted my apps last night,
and there was a marked difference in my behavior at work today.
It went a little something like this:
I had "Timber" stuck in my head all day,
time actually moved fairly quickly,
& I couldn't wait to go on my evening run.
Someone asked me for relationship advice,
and I didn't even respond snarkily.
In short, today was weird.
Things have been pretty awful for so long,
it's a little disconcerting to feel so careless.

Now, release the Groundhog:
(let's see how many allusions I can make in this one)

God created man in his image;
in the image of God he created them;
male and female he created them.
Sorry for the blasphemy.

Listen my children and you shall hear

Groundhog Day is my absolute favorite holiday.
Sometimes, I get caught up in Christmas & Halloween,
but February 2 rolls around and I remember.
Oh, do I remember.

Last year at GHog, I was unemployed.
Having a job made this year slightly more complicated,
but not necessarily in a bad way.
I still managed to stay out ridiculously late on Thursday & Friday,
but I didn't get sick-drunk,
so I consider it an all-around win.
There was some fairly persuasive encouragement
to skip work on Saturday,
but I did the adult thing & the anticipation made it that much better.
Despite my desire to catch up to everyone else, drunk-wise,
I distinctly remember eating a piece of naan
& telling a stranger that "I just don't want to die."
(His response: a very solemn "me neither" & a bite out of my naan.
No one's a stranger for long on Groundhog.)

(Row 1: a Mexican cartel bomb to start the weekend right, a free Pat Green concert courtesy of Chart Westcott, & what I was doing Saturday morning;
Row 2: Ye Olde Tower, lovely ladiez, & GHog buds;
Row 3: #socollege, Greg was a dancing machine, & the Groundhog 2014 sweatshirt)

Casualties of the weekend: the Burt's Bees that I accidentally washed
in the laundry the next day,
the sleep I so desperately need (my eye's been twitching for days now),
and my desire to be an adult.
Can I re-do college?

My So-Called Law School Application

Heeeeeeeey Law School!

I CANNOT stop laughing right now. RIP Arrested Development

So...applications are down again this year. I'm here to call your bluff. Are you really not going to admit me? I could probably leave the rest of this page blank and you would still admit me based on my LSAT + GPA. I'm not cocky, just realistic.

In fact...

Your move, Law School.

Love,

Mary Angela

JK LULZ
I'm writing a real personal statement.
Or I'm trying to, anyway.
My BFF x a million is a hoity-toity editor for
the likes of Dennis Prager and Thomas Sowell,
so it is her unfortunate lot in life to be the person who
edits all of my law school crap.
Apparently, the first draft of my personal statement was too...apologetic.
Sorry I have an issue with saying sorry too often.
Sorry I feel felt still feel like a failure because my teaching career ended
in a fiery ball of destruction.
Sorry I'm a child and have to start my life from scratch.
#sorryI'msupersorry
The actual application section of my apps is done,
so now it's just my personal statement that needs to be accomplished.
I can pump out a fairly successful blog post in an hour,
but this damn statement is getting the best of me.
In all of the examples I read, it seems pretty clear that
I'm supposed to write about a specific experience that steered my life toward law.
What if I'm just doing it because I have nothing else to do?
I don't think law schools appreciate being anyone's backup plan
anymore than I do.
Also, can we talk about my use of gifs lately?
I am on FIRE.

Me & Alex P. Keaton

I know by saying this, I'm jinxing it.
But my history shows that,
while I may be able to keep my thoughts from being vocalized,
I am not so great at stopping these little digits from
diligently documenting my every idea.
BUT
I haven't been sick in a little while.
And when I was sick, it was for a normal length of time.
My ever-so-brief foray into teaching had me on my deathbed.
This time last year, I was the sickest of dogs
and no holiday cheer was to be found.
Having been raised by a doctor,
I never go to one.
I can count on one hand and a half hands the number of times
I can recall going to the doctor.
(Obviously, going as a baby doesn't count
because babies need shots and are pansies.)

So this year,
even though I despise my co-workers and I'm facilitating
the evil of work of the welfare state,
I am thankful that my place of work is not overrun
by grody guttersnipes.
I also love the fact that I can say, with 95% certainty,
(there's always room for error + people are disgusting)
that I am not anywhere near someone else's bodily fluid,
nor is it my job to clean it up.

I've gotten past the easy, fill-in-your-information part of law school apps.
I now have to actually think and write and it sucks.
I don't have any dramatic story to use for my personal statement,
and my resume is looking pretty sparse.
I'm thinking about submitting the lyrics to this song as my personal statement.
Too bold?
(The band created this as a parody, but it's a decent summation of my actual beliefs.)

Because this post is so short & lame,
here's two of my favorite things from this past week:
This was God's way of telling me there was a reason I haven't
been to WWofHP yet.
He's always got a plan.
It's supposed to open in summer of 2014, so happy birthday to meeeee.

And this:
Love me some pro-gun ladiez.
